Canadian sludge/grind/hardcore outfit Anthesis have always found ways to stay busy, constantly releasing a new stream of music throughout the 2010s and into 2020, but their new album, Tension Between Rot and Genesis, represents a change in pace for the band. As opposed to firing off new releases every year, Anthesis took three years to craft their new album, which you can stream below ahead of its November 1 release on Roman Numeral Records and Ancient Temple Recordings.
“Tension… is the result of us really focusing on a balance of experimentation and simplicity,” Anthesis tell Decibel of their new record. “Relatively simple arrangements left some room for production adventures like having two full drum kits on a track and having a couple tracks with dual bass and no guitars. We wanted a really natural, in the room sound, so everything you hear on the album was captured with a microphone. No triggers, sound replacing or DI tracks were used. I think all of these things have resulted in our heaviest, most focused album.”
Rather than take our word for it, you can listen to Tension Between Rot and Genesis now.
