Exclusive Premiere: Mugger’s “Luck Forever” is a S…

I can’t speak from experience or imagine what it’s like, but being a woman in the punk or hardcore scene just sounds exhausting. I can’t imagine having to constantly prove yourself to people less talented than you only for them to mansplain the living shit out of the music you’ve written or just performed.
For Mugger vocalist Anna Troxell, it’s that experience she says that forged the band’s new single and today’s exclusive premiere “Not The One”, off their forthcoming debut album Luck Forever.
“This track follows along with that ideology of not being taken seriously – it will certainly sneak up throughout the album. ‘Not the One,’ however, is more sarcastic. I sing ‘Please explain, please explain,’ with rolled eyes and a ‘LOL.’
“As a woman in music, I often am put in the position of unsolicited advice on how to perform, or a mystifying education on the history of punk and hardcore. I do understand these are microaggressions, and most often do not come from a bad place – but it is still entirely unnecessary and annoying.”
That certainly sounds draining — and I thought I had it bad with our comments section!
Based out of Austin, Texas, the band is comprised of members from Creepoid, Radioactivity and The Well, with their sound mostly being influenced by “77’ punk to blown-out hardcore.” And as you can tell from the track below, the band wears their influences on their sleeves. Right from the get-go, the band attack you with their angular guitar and thumping rhythms that feels almost like it’s been dipped in 90s angst at times. It’s a middle finger dripping with “fuck around and find out” energy.
Luck Forever will be released on November 15 via Quiet Panic Records, but you can preorder your copy today.
