Gotta love it when music videos tell a story — all the best ones do. And if the latest video from Chat Pile has any story to tell, it’s that dudes just like hanging out in basements and fighting each other in front of girls to impress them. At least that’s what I got out of the narrative music video for the band’s new single “Masc”, which is the latest single off the band’s forth coming album Cool World.

Directed by Stephen Mondics and produced by Mario DeLeon, the video is striking visually, as your relationship with the characters involved change as you see more and more about them. Bassist Stin (Austin Tackett) said the band was happy with the video as a final product.

“This is our first time collaborating with Stephen Mondics and the band is completely blown away with how well he was able to capture the spirit of the song. As huge movie buffs, it’s also a legitimate dream-come-true to have a music video shot completely on film under our belts.”

As for the song itself, vocalist Raygun Busch said “Masc” was definitely one of the more important songs on the new album.

“‘Masc’ is the saddest Chat Pile song since ‘Tenkiller.’ Unlike the rest of the album, this song deals with horrors of interpersonal intimacy, yet it is connected with the rest of the record through the overarching theme of oppression, despair and malaise.”

Cool World will be released on October 11 via The Flenser, but you can preorder and pre-save your copy today. The band also has some live dates planned for this November, so be sure to check out the list of dates below to see if they’re coming to a venue near you.
