Exodus Won’t Rush Their Next Album, Will Likely Re…

There’s an old saying that if there’s something worth doing, it’s worth doing well. Basically, why run into things and half ass something to meet a deadline when you can take your time and put out the best shit you possibly can? That’s apparently the mantra that’s going into Exodus‘ as of yet unnamed follow up to 2021’s Persona Non Grata.

During an interview on Full Metal Jackie‘s radio show, guitarist Gary Holt explained that though the writing process is currently underway for the band’s next release, they’re going to need more time to make sure it’s up to their standards.

“Well, I’m writing the new record right now. We were going to go to the studio in a week, but we needed more time. We’re not ready. And if we rushed it, that’d be a huge mistake. Unfortunately, due to touring commitments, our next gap to get in and do this properly, it’s, like, the beginning of next year. So, we’re pushing back, but it’s gonna be worth it ’cause the songs are just coming along very well. I’m super pleased. Stuff’s heavy.”

Sounds promising. Over the course of the interview, Holt highlighted just how important it was that the band was taking its time. And while that may seem counter-intuitive, given the fact that it’s now been three years since the last record, Holt drew on the fact that Persona Non Grata was a product of the pandemic, when everyone had an abundance of time on their hands.

“The last album we had all the time in the world due to the pandemic, and the results are apparent in the record, and to follow Persona Non Grata with a rushed release would be the dumbest thing we could possibly do. But it’s coming along — it’s coming along really well. Actually, I’ve got 10 songs I’m working on. Lee’s [Altus, Exodus guitarist] got some stuff, and we’ll take it from there.”

As a result of their approach, Holt revealed that the album would likely not see the light of day until next year. Which, let’s be real — any time something is scheduled to come out in 2025, that date sounds fake, right? Or is it just me that thinks “2025” sounds like some far flung future, even though we’re currently living in 2024.
