Celebrate Theprp.com’s 25th Anniversary With New T…

June of 2024 marks the 25th anniversary of theprp.com. That’s a milestone I am still trying to wrap my head around. While the site existed in a previous incarnation, a complete revamp and relaunch with an all-new staff and content took place this month a quarter of a century ago. It was around then that I (wookubus) was brought on.
That overhauled version of the site started humbly enough, being inherited on free website host Angelfire. With a scrappy work ethic and a passion to bring bands we felt were deserving to the forefront, actual hosting and a domain name soon became a necessity.
The idea of changing the name was wrestled with internally at the time, but ultimately, thanks to initial success, the site’s previous moniker of Pimp Rock Palace had already stuck. As such, Theprp.com effectively came into existence by default, a mild homage to what came before and a potential placeholder for a change down the line. Given this post, the latter obviously didn’t happen…
Ultimately, responsibilities and the changes that come with growing up saw the likes of Pedro, Defweb and more pursue other interests and running the site fell upon my shoulders. It’s been an honor, (and yes, sometimes a burden), but you loyal readers and passionate fans of everything heavier have kept this site afloat over the years as much as I have.
Despite the highs and lows and some tough challenges in recent years, the readership hasn’t wavered. It’s been truly inspiring. From the time when 1,000 views a month was a cause for celebration to the hundreds of millions of times this site has been read since, the mission never changed: help break cool bands and build the scene.
As a nod to those early days, I’ve brought back an early 2000s era shirt with some twists. It was poor Defweb who took on the task of getting the original ‘Losers, Poseurs And Sellouts’ shirt printed and shipped out back in the day. While it wasn’t the first theprp.com shirt to come out, it was certainly the most readily available during its era.
If you were here during the black and blue days, you may remember that the site would have a different title each time you loaded it. ‘Losers, Poseurs And Sellouts’ spawned from that, as did ‘More Metal Than Your Grandmother’s Hip Replacement’. For this initial look back, the ‘Losers, Poseurs And Sellouts’ shirt has been recreated, along with a variant featuring the other aforementioned site title — which admittedly given our collective age now, might as well now be just be your mother’s hip replacement.
As an added bonus, and a nod to the dial-up roots of the site, there’s an extra bonus in the new ‘Riled Up Since Dial-Up’ shirt. If cliché sayings aren’t your bag, you can also just get a shirt with the OG logo printed on the front.
As with past offerings, these shirts are available in all manner of colors as opposed to solely what you see in the images featured here. You can pick them up via teepublic.com. Refer to this sizing chart to get the best fit, should you want to represent.
