I’ve got a long drive ahead of me this weekend, so I’m thankful that we’ve got some great new music out today. What are you excited to listen to this weekend?
Alcest
Les Chants de l’Aurore (Nuclear Blast)
French post-black metal outfit Alcest return with their seventh full-length release with Les Chants de l’Aurore. We’ve got a review up on the site about the album, so you can learn way more about it than I can write in just a few sentences. Spoilers: We liked it.
Cavalera
Schizophrenia (Nuclear Blast)
Max and Igorr Cavalera are back again with a little more revisionist history, as the brothers set out to re-record old Sepultura releases to make them sound more in line with what they imagined the music would be all those years ago. Definitely check this out if you like old school Sepultura but want a more modern feel to it all.
Greenleaf
The Head & The Habit (Magnetic Eye Records)
Another week, another stoner record hitting STCOT. This time around, we’ve got Swedish band Greenleaf with their ninth full-length album The Head & The Habit. This thing’s groovy, fuzzy, and definitely shows how this band has been able to keep its spot within the European stoner rock scene for more than 25 years.
Kittie
Fire (Sumerian Records)
This one’s has a loooong burn (ha, get it), but it’s finally here. After years and years of being away, Kittie have torn itself out of Canada and back into the spotlight with their first album in decades, Fire. We’ve covered all of the singles and each one’s been a surprising listen. They may have been gone for a while, but they’re back with a vengeance.
Sumac
The Healer (Thrilljockey)
Clocking in at just four tracks and 76 minutes in length, this one’s a doozy. Honestly, it probably demands a couple listens to really appreciate, but the experimental nature of the songs found within are certainly an adventure to say the least.
