We’re roughly half way through April… how the fuck did that happen so fast?! With that in mind, have you voted on your favorite album from March? You’ve still got time, so do it!
Benighted
Ekbom (Season of Mist)
French tech death outfit Benighted received some pretty high praise in our review last week. Touted as an excellent example of extremely proficient execution that still manages to be an enjoyable 35 minutes from front to back. C.C. Delorean said the album was a “thrill ride across the narrow, blurred spaces between tech death and grindcore, blending the ferocity of the latter with the precision and variety of the former.”
Heavy Temple
Garden of Heathens (Magnetic Eye Records)
I’ll say it again — psyche doom will always have a warm place in my heart. So when I first heard Garden of Heathens, I instantly knew this bad boy had to be featured in its respective STCOT. Hailing from Philly, this band’s second album really exemplifies why heavy and fuzzy riffs will always kick ass.
Necrot
Lifeless Birth (Tankcrimes)
Cali death metal motherfuckers Necrot are back with their third full-length album and their follow up to 2020’s Mortal. And while our review suggests that this doesn’t necessarily reinvent the death metal wheel, it certainly uses that wheel to run over any notion that this full-length is anything but pure, unadulterated power.
SETYØURSAILS
Bad Blood (Napalm Records)
This one’s for our metalcore fans out there. Deutschland’s own SETYØURSAILS are back with their second full-length release and if you like a female-fronted band with heavy guitars with an infusion of electronica, this is definitely one worth checking out.
Týr
Battle Ballads (Metal Blade Records)
Brush up on your Norse mythology and sharpen your cosplay swords — progressive folk metal band Týr’s Battle Ballads is exactly what you’d expect with a title like that. Expect big, sweeping songs about ancient battles where men galloped on horses and bludgeoned each other to death for hours and hours on the battlefield for some sense of glory and conquest. Even if you think it’s cheese, you gotta admit it’s a fun listen.
